Recall Check
An unofficial MCP connector that lets AI assistants check US safety recalls for cars (by VIN or make, model and year), consumer and baby products, and food and drugs, using public data from NHTSA, the CPSC and the FDA.

Tools
| Tool | Inputs | What it does |
|---|---|---|
vehicle_recalls | vinmakemodelyear | Check US safety recalls for a car, truck, SUV or motorcycle. Give a 17-character VIN (decoded to make, model and year) or the make, model and year. Use when someone asks whether their vehicle has a recall. Flags 'do not drive' and 'park outside' recalls. Recalls are matched by model, so tell users to confirm their exact VIN on nhtsa.gov/recalls. |
product_recalls | productbrandsincelimit default 10 | Search US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) recalls for household products: cribs, strollers, baby gear, toys, appliances, furniture, electronics, tools and more. Search by product name and/or brand. Use when someone asks whether a product they own was recalled. Returns the hazard, what to do (refund, repair, replace), where it was sold and the official notice. |
food_drug_recalls | productcompanytype food | drug | device, default foodstatesincelimit default 10 | Search FDA recalls (enforcement reports) for food, drugs (including supplements and medicines) or medical devices by product words and/or company. Use when someone asks if a food, medicine or device was recalled. Explains the severity class and where the product was distributed. FDA lists recalls after classifying them, so very new recalls may not appear yet. |
recent_recalls | days default 14keywordinclude all | products | food | drugs, default all | List the newest US recalls from the CPSC (consumer products) and the FDA (food, and optionally drugs) over the last few weeks. Use for 'what's been recalled this week' or 'any new baby product recalls'. Optional keyword filter (e.g. 'baby', 'toy', 'chicken'). |
All tools are read-only. Results include text for people and structuredContent JSON for agents.
Example prompts
- Does my 2019 Honda CR-V have any recalls?
- Check VIN 5J6RW2H89KL012345 for recalls.
- Has my Graco stroller been recalled?
- Any peanut butter recalls in New York this year?

Data & limits
- Vehicles: NHTSA recalls API and vPIC VIN decoder. Recalls are matched by make, model and year, not by individual VIN: confirm your exact VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls.
- Consumer products: CPSC Recalls API, the same recalls published on cpsc.gov.
- Food, drugs and devices: openFDA enforcement reports, updated weekly. Recalls appear after FDA classifies them, which can lag the first announcement.
- Results are cached at the edge for 1–6 hours.
- Recall remedies (repairs, refunds, replacements) come from the manufacturer or seller. This connector never sells or processes anything.
